World's first 3D iPhone
James Stewart of Geneva Film Co., showed off “the world’s first 3D iPhone,” a prototype made by Spatial View Inc. that will be launched as a 99 cent app in the iPhone store, Deborah Kaufman reports from 3D Summit. “My clients ask where they can use the 3D version,” Stewart continued. “I say, the movie theatre and, in 2009, it can go on the iPhone as a download. Everything in between will eventually happen.” (Editorial clarification: 3DeeCamera is the iPhone App that was demonstrated.)
The full panel on 3D advertising, in addition to Stewart, featured Lindy Sheridan, director of marketing at PACE (moderator), Chris Gunn from Endemol USA, and Melissa Weber of Grey Los Angeles. Salient remarks on what 3D brings to advertising:
Melissa Weber: “Being the brand rather than telling people about it is every advertiser’s dream. Many of the advertisers I’ve worked with could benefit from using 3D in an organic way.”
Chris Gunn: ... 3D has to be organic, “or it's insulting to today’s consumer.” “People will fast forward,” he said. “If it’s immersive and organic and experiential, that’s where we’re moving.”
Lindy Sheridan: this (3D) “moves beyond the sales message and into an experience.” and noted that product placement will be enhanced in 3D.
3D Entertainment Summit was held December 1-2, 2008 in Los Angeles. 3D: Post Production, Advertising and the Future by Deborah Kaufman can be found here.
