Inventec Multimedia & Telecom Corporation, Taipei, Taiwan and Spatial View Inc, Toronto, Canada today announced the formation of a strategic partnership for the production and marketing of 3D displays. Under the agreement, Inventec Multimedia & Telecom Corporation will begin manufacturing auto-stereoscopic displays based on Spatial View's multi-view and single-view technology. Both types of screens show true three dimensional images without optical aids like 3D glasses.
The multi-view display process uses an optical element barrier which deliberately blocks parts of the LCD screen in order to make the 3D effect possible. The barrier structure is so fine that the viewer does not perceive it. With these displays, three-dimensional vision is possible with the naked eye over a wide range of viewing angles and positions making it an ideal choice for multi-viewer use.
In addition to the barrier process, the Inventec 3D LCD displays will use the very latest in auto-stereoscopic technology: the SeeFront lenticular process. SeeFront GmbH is a recently founded joint venture between German engineer Christoph Grossmann and Spatial View. Designed for single user viewing, the SeeFront screen is a high resolution, two-view system that uses sophisticated eye-tracking to keep the 3D image precisely aligned regardless of viewing position. Displays based on the SeeFront system boast impressive optical quality: the highest resolution without any loss of brightness, and design options that range from miniature displays with a small viewing distance and the highest pixel density to the latest 30" TFT panels with 4 Megapixel resolution and beyond. The stunning image quality also makes it the ideal 3D display technology for the next generation of mobile and handheld devices.
The new alignment brings together, Spatial View Inc., a young, innovative company that is forging the latest advances in 3D technology, with Inventec Multimedia & Telecom Corporation, one of Taiwan's largest electronics manufacturers, a global heavyweight, with multiple subsidiaries and deep market penetration. By working closely together, the two companies are setting out on a path to address the needs of the burgeoning field of 3D: glasses-free displays and a host of related products like cell phones and digital players.
"Our latest trade show experience at Siggraph 2006 has shown that there is high demand for a quality, glasses-free 3D experience," says Beat Raemy, CEO of Spatial View Inc.
"Our new partnership with Inventec is a big step forward; we'll be able to enter the marketplace with both of our display technologies and be in a position to satisfy the strong and ever increasing demand for auto-stereo 3D. And, because of Inventec's vast experience and manufacturing expertise, together, we'll be able to provide high quality displays at very reasonable prices."
"As a large ODM (original design manufacture) company, it will be particularly exciting to work with a young, vibrant, and technologically creative company like Spatial View," states C.H. Lee, President of Inventec Multimedia & Telecom Corporation. "In addition to the manufacture of 3D displays, there exists enormous potential to integrate and incorporate various Inventec products with Spatial View's phenomenal 3D technology, all of which will have strong implications for the 3D market and for the future."
